Steve is Sumpters’ trusted authority on tax. He began his career with the IRD, where he spent over 15 years as a tax inspector undertaking tax investigations on everything from small family businesses to large multinational companies. He later went on to become a Taxation Services Manager at one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms, providing specialist tax advice to clients across a wide range of industries.

A born and bred Northlander, Steve became a Director of Sumpters in 2010, and since then has continued to do what he does best - help people make sense of tax, and make confident business decisions. He enjoys working closely with clients to navigate complex issues and create practical solutions that support their long-term goals.

Outside the office, Steve is a proud dad of three and enjoys spending time outdoors, especially on the golf course or out fishing. He values being part of a passionate team and is inspired by people who back themselves and take bold ideas forward.
